BOOK PUBLISHED WITH INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION BY DIU
Daffodil International University’s book titled Empowering Students to Learn Fundamentals of Programming has been published recently from the official press of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM). Publishing the book is a result of an international collaboration, research and publication. The work started with a LEADHER project awarded by the International Association of Universities (IAU) to develop research capacity at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) where six persons from Daffodil International University (DIU) attended. Upon return a research project was designed and carried out on a total of about 300 students. The research was designed by Prof Dr Yusuf M Islam (DIU) and reviewed by Dr Faridah Ibrahim (USM). At the end the individual book chapters were written by Khalid Been Badruzzaman, NaziaNishat, Sadekur Rahman, Mohamed Emran Hossain, Mohammed ShamsulHoque, MdKabirul Islam and Yousuf M Islam. After a thorough review UniversitiSains Islam Malaysia (USIM) agreed to publish the book at their official press.
40 years of research has shown that novice students find it very difficult to learn programming logic thus making debugging programs difficult for the students. One of the reasons cited is that program code is dynamic, however recorded in a static manner. The research in the book presents the success/failure combined novel approach that creatively engages a student to dynamically debug code and thus learn the most difficult skill of debugging.
